I see so many things about Honduras online. I have family members who have basically scared me into never wanting to go. I want to know from other people's experiences, people who have actually gone there... Is it a safe country? I see it labeled as the murder capital of the world and I can't imagine this is a destination very many people choose when vacationing.
Honestly, no. It is not safe but that doesn't mean you can't go there. Plenty of people do. You just have to understand that most of the country is in poverty and being flashy by any means will make you a target. The biggest issue tourists have is having their phones get stolen. It is very unlikely you will get killed from a robbery but the chances of being robbed are higher here than in most other places.

I appreciate your honesty. I feel like people only paint it one way or the other but don't actually address why it isn't safe and why people still choose to go.
