I have heard this area has a mixed culture with Afro-Caribbean influences. I would imagine this means a lot of the local dishes are spicy but I am not entirely sure. What has drawn me to this area is the wildlife and the beautiful national parks. I would like to make a trip and visit here in the near future.
This is one of those places that incorporate nature EVERYWHERE and it is honestly beautiful.
I would explain the culture to be very lively, family-oriented, and friendly. The food is basic with an exotic flare. There are hot/spicy dishes all over but you don't have to worry too much about finding something if you can't stand the heat.

I should have been more specific, I was more so curious of the food than anything.
So even thought there are hotter/spicer foods, I shouldn't have to worry too much about finding items that aren't hot/spicy, that is what you are saying right?
